Tryouts will begin at 9:00am, and coincide with a practice for those women who had made the cuts from the first round of earlier preliminary tryouts that the Caliente held back in the spring of this year.
The first round of tryouts hosted over 110 women vying for a spot with the core team of start-up organization. Of those, 45 women who "made the first cut" have been meeting 2 times a week for the past few months for conditioning and drill work, all with the same goal of making the Arizona Caliente a success.
Jennifer Cada, Caliente General Manager, noted, "Its really amazing how far these women have come over the past few months, and all this before weve really had our first official practice. We are looking forward to adding even more talent and are expecting a quality showing at the open tryout." The Caliente are looking to bring on 15-20 more players to take into their pre-season training camp, which will begin September 15th, 2001.
The Arizona Caliente look to be a dominant force within the WAFL boasting both rookie talent and experienced players from across the United States (and Internationally). Some of the Caliente players & coaches took part in the WAFL Pre-Season Exhibition All Star game in Las Vegas, NV on August 4th, 2001, and are now even more excited and ready for the upcoming season.
