The Caliente held tryouts with a very positive response from both prospective players and fans. Women were tested on speed & agility, and many were brought back in to participate in the weekend mini-camp Aug. 18th & 19th, 2001.

The WAFL's first SCOUT BOWL took place in Tampa, Florida. The Rebel Scout ALL STARS faced the Tampa Bay Force. The Rebel Scout ALL STARS squad fielded a group of experienced tackle players from Florida and rookie walk-ons from across North America and was coached by ARIZONA CALIENTE Head Coach Gerry Turley.
